Prof John Lennox

Professor John Lennox is Professor of Mathematics (Emeritus = retired but academically active) at the University of Oxford, Emeritus Fellow, Green Templeton College and Associate Fellow, Saïd Business School.

He was brought up and went to school in Northern Ireland, and studied for his MA, MMath and PhD at Emmanuel College at the Cambridge University. Subsequently he held research fellowships at the Universities of Würzburg and Freiburg in Germany. Before taking up his post in Oxford, Professor Lennox worked for many years in the Mathematics Institute at the University of Wales in Cardiff and was awarded a DSc for his research. He also holds an MA and DPhil from Oxford University, and an MA in Bioethics from the University of Surrey.

He has produced over seventy published mathematical papers and is the co-author of two research level texts in algebra in the Oxford Mathematical Monographs series. He has lectured extensively in North America, Eastern and Western Europe and Australasia on mathematics, the philosophy of science and the intellectual defence of Christianity.He debated Richard Dawkins on “The God Delusion” in the University of Alabama (2007) and on “Has Science buried God?” in the Oxford Museum of Natural History (2008). He has also debated Christopher Hitchens on the New Atheism (Edinburgh Festival, 2008) and the question of “Is God Great?” (Samford University, 2010), as well as Peter Singer on the topic of “Is there a God?” (Melbourne, 2011). Furthermore, he has participated in public discussions on similar topics with many other academics on campuses around the world.
